As we wrapped up our time with Albania a couple days ago, I wanted to write a blog recapping my time there!

Country: Kotodesh, Albania

Dates: 1/9/23-2/23/23

Team Name: STCKD

Local Currency: Lek

Local Languages: Albanian (or Shqip)

Ministry Partner Name: Living Waters Church

Favorite Memory: My favorite memory was this little girl we met in another village where we did children’s ministry. She had the same name as me, but spelled it a little different. She was 6 years old and was pretty small for her age. One time I shared with the children about David and Goliath, and also shared a little portion of my testimony. I shared how I have felt small and not good enough, so I asked all the children if they have ever felt small and her hand shot right up. Each time we visited this village, she was my little mini me. She mimicked my every move and smiled ear to ear each time we went. It was a sweet reminder of the joy that children carry.

A High Moment (something really good): We were able to create a connection with the youth towards the end of our time. We all got excited when it was time for the youth to meet. We got to share our testimonies and hearts with them. One day, one of the youth asked me if I knew how to dance because I had told her my family was from Mexico. So, at one of our youth events, they taught out team the traditional Albanian dances and I taught them some cumbia and bachata. It felt like a fever dream and I loved to see how we were able to connect with them.

A Low Moment (time I felt low): It was hard to be away from home on my birthday. It did bring up some homesickness, but I got to create some really sweet memories with my team and our host!

What God Taught Me: God taught me that He is King of all Kings, Creator of the Universe, Worthy of all praise. He taught me to be bold in my faith and to make each encounter meaningful. He taught me that His heart is for us and is waiting for His children to turn to Him.

A Spiritual Growth: I referenced this in what He has taught me, but it has also been a spiritual growth. The Lord has grown me in being bold in my faith. I have the Good News and the Truth, so why withold that from people. Why not be bold and share Jesus’ Good News and that there is salvation through Him!!

Favorite Squad Memory (thus far): Albania was our last time with our Alumni Squad Leaders, so we all got together as a squad to say goodbye. We got to take some moments to hear from them and for them to hear from us. It was so sweet to reminisce on our time with them and to thank the Lord for Raquel, Samantha and Aaron.

With all of that being said…

Albania. Thank you for showing us the sweetness of village life. Thank you for the relationships with people that I will cherish deeply. For igniting a fire in our hearts to share the Gospel unashamed. Thank you for allowing us space to remember what the Lord has done and will do.

Blessings,

Joana Quintana

  1. Joana girl!! Thanks for writing such a sweet recap of your time in Albania. I’ll say it, the ‘favorite memory’ got me!! I love that you had a mini-me. And truthfully, I’m not surprised! You live a life worthy of imitation because you walk in the Spirit and submit to the Lord. It’s beautiful!
I’m in your corner, Jo. Love you so much! xoxo, Kara
